Most of The Lodge’s 40 guest rooms and suites overlook the emerald fairways of Plantation and Seaside courses or the Atlantic Ocean, offering exceptional views to enjoy a morning coffee or watch the sun set. Lodge guests are treated to impeccable dining experiences at Colt & Alison and the Oak Room. The Lodge Wine Cellar houses an impressive backbone of Old World and New World vintages with 4,500 bottles and 750 labels as well as a small, private dining experience. From The Lodge terrace and scenic verandah, diners and guests enjoy the traditional Scottish sunset serenade performed by a bagpiper marking the end of each day along the oceanfront 10th fairway of Plantation.
Seaside Course
Originally designed in 1929 by famed architects Harry S. Colt and Charles Alison, the Seaside Course underwent an update in 1999 by Tom Fazio – earning it a prominent place on Golf Digest’s list of “Top 100 Courses in the United States.” Situated at the southern tip of St. Simons Island at the Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club, this is the pinnacle of links golf. According to Sea Island resident and PGA Tour legend Davis Love III, Mr. Fazio transformed two nines from “18 holes that didn’t match into 18 matchless holes.” Tidal creeks, dunes, salt marshes and the St. Simons Sound frame the course which plays fast, firm and fun in the tradition of legendary Scottish links. |

Plantation Course
With Rees Jones’s masterful renovation in 1998 of this Walter Travis/Dick Wilson original, the Plantation Course unfolds among a forest of ancient live oak and cedar, with a hint of danger lurking in its tidal creeks and lakes. When Rees Jones reshaped the original nine-hole Plantation Course and the former Retreat Course into one 18-hole configuration in 1998, he called the results “parkland by the sea” for its magnificent vistas of the Atlantic Ocean and the lush greenery, expansive flower beds and ancient oaks of the island. Rees added, “I took the work of Walter Travis (who designed Plantation in 1926) and Dick Wilson (who fashioned Retreat in 1960) and produced a classic style course with a similar flavor.”. |

Retreat Course
When Davis Love III and his brother, Mark, began work on the renovation of the Retreat Course in October 2000, they knew they had a difficult task. Blending the player’s preferences from the previous design, the brothers created an original design that is dramatic. The green complexes are a combination of slope, sand bunkers, and undulations creating a masterful test challenging the golfers to hit a variety of shots. As a private course of the Sea Island Golf Club, Retreat is accessible on a limited basis to guest’s of the resort. |
