Four Sea Island Golf Instructors Honored on America’s 50 Greatest Teachers List

Sea Island, GA (July 9, 2009) - Sea Island Golf Club became the only golf facility in the U.S. to employ four of the top 50 golf instructors, when Todd Anderson, Jack Lumpkin, Gale Peterson and Mike Shannon landed on Golf Digest’s 50 Greatest Teachers list. Additionally, Sea Island golf instructor Jared Zak was named to the list of top 20 teachers who are under 40 years of age.

  • July 15, 2010 -Rebecca Durham captures a second-straight Top 60 Women's Classic Title.  This tournament showcases the top female amateurs in Georgia.  Rebecca finished at 5-under par 141 shooting 71-70.  Rebecca is a student of Jared Zak.
  • July 14, 2010 -  Lee and Chung swinging in Scotland  - David Lee of Houston, and Karen Chung of Livingston, N.J.,  are  currently representing the United States at the Junior Open Championship (July 12-14), a biennial event accompanying The Open Championship. The tournament takes place on Scotland's east coast at Lundin Golf Club in Fife.  David and Karen are both students of Mike Taylor and Craig Allan.
  • July 14, 2010 - Sea Island Golf Learning Center students Stephanie Liu and Taelor Rubin qualify for the US Women's Amateur being held at Charlotte Country Club August 9-15 2010.  Stephanie Liu (14 years old) was co-medalist with a score of 73 at Kansas City Country Club and Taelor Rubin qualified at Sapona Country Club in Lexington, North Carolina with a score of 72. Stephanie and Taelor are students of Todd Anderson.
  • July 13, 2010 -Summer success for student's of Sea Island Director of Instruction - Todd AndersonHunter Hamrick successfully defends his Alabama Amateur Championship title.  Scott Wolfes successfully defends his Georgia State Junior Championship title.  Brinson Paolini wins his third consecutive Virginia State Amateur Championship.  Hudson Swafford wins Sectional U.S. Open qualifier in Memphis and plays in the open at Pebble Beach.  John Tyler Griffin wins qualifier for U.S. Public Links. 
  • July 10, 2010 - Todd Anderson has 5 college students named to 2010 Ping All American Teams: Tyson Alexander-Senior - University of Florida, John Tyler Griffin - Junior - Georgia Tech University, Sean Dale - Sophomore-University of North Florida, Hunter Hamrick - Sophomore-University of Alabama, Ben Kohles-Sophomore-University of Virginia.  Todd also had 8 students qualiify for 2010 United States Junior Championship: Brandon Liu, Wesley Gosselin, William Sellers, Scott Wolfes, Collins Bradshaw, Stephanie Liu, Janie Jackson and Taelor Rubin.
  • October 6, 2009 - Follow Sea Island PGA Tour professionals Lucas Glover, Zach Johnson, and Stewart Cink October 6-11 at the Presidents Cup being played at Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco, California.
  • October 4, 2009 - Matt Kuchar won his second PGA Tour event last week at the Turning Stone Resort Championship in Verona, NY. It came 7 years after his first win, the 2002 Honda Classic. Kuchar bested another Sea Island PGA Tour professional in Vaughn Taylor in a sudden death playoff.
  • July 19, 2009 - Stewart Cink captures British Open Championship.
  • June 19, 2009 - Lucas Glover wins US Open Championship.
